The History of Woodmoor
Part of the greater East Colorado Springs area, Woodmoor is found to the north along with Monument, and Black Forest. This is an area of Colorado Springs that has experienced great growth through out the last 20 years as people are searching for a community to lead a quieter and more relaxed pace of life. Woodmoor, like many of the other communities in the Colorado Springs area, provides an opportunity to experience life at a higher elevation as it is one of many towns built approximately 6,000 feet above sea level.

In Woodmoor, you will also be greeted with each of the four seasons. You’ll have plenty of snow to dive into during the winter, and as a resident or a visitor you can enjoy many winter activities such as skiing or even ice-skating.  You’ll also find a wide variety of exclusive skiing areas within a short drive of the Woodmoor community including Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain and Keystone. The community is frames on the west side by the Colorado Rockies producing unlimited hiking and biking opportunities through out the year.

The schools with in the Woodmoor community boast of the high education and nationally reknown reputation of most of the Colorado school districts. The schools are known for being extremely safe and full of teachers who are well-trained and love the area! Teachers also love to move to this area because of the great benefits and the ideal teaching conditions. There are many choices when it comes to education as well. Not only public, but private and parochial schools are offered in the community. Once students finish high school there are several options for furthering their education, including several well-known universities in the state, from Denver to more local colleges in Colorado Springs.

Woodmoor also has a very strong military presence. Peterson Air Force Base, Fort Carson, Schriever Air Force Base, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the Air Force Academy are all located in the region. These military institutions have brought financial growth and stability to the area, and they also provide a wealth of employment options to the area residents. If you are planning to work out of Denver, the commute is not too far and definitely not out of the questions.

The area's rich and colorful mining history can be explored at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry. The museum features a research library, mining artifacts, historic machinery, a museum store and free guided tours. Annual events are hosted by the Air Force Academy, including athletic games such as football and hockey, musicals and concerts at Arnold Hall, planetarium programs and religious services at the Cadet Chapel. Want to check out some of Colorado’s beautiful natural surroundings? Then check out the Fox Run and Black Forest regional parks, which provide plenty of outdoor recreation. These two parks, situated in ponderosa pine forests, are wildlife havens. Here you can view black squirrels, porcupines, red foxes and mule deer at the parks while hiking, horseback riding, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. Palmer Park is another favorite destination, particularly for mountain bikers and hikers.
